Youth For Human Rights Awareness Club to Be Launched

(EMU) – St. Kitts, February 25, 2016: The Youth For Human Rights Awareness Project will take a huge step on Saturday February 27th by way of its Human Rights Club Induction Workshop.The workshop seeks to open discussions for a St. Kitts–Nevis Human Rights Club to support human rights issues.According to Secretary General of the National Commission For UNESCO, Mr Antonio Maynard, “Activities will include the drafting of the club’s constitution and presentations by key experts in Human Rights. A representative from the Youth for Human Rights International Organization is expected to address the youths”.

Youth participants from St. Kitts, Nevis and representatives from secondary schools as well as other youth leaders will be in attendance.  The day-long event will include an introduction to Youth for Human Rights History, purpose and achievements;  discussions on the social impact of Youth Human Rights Clubs as well as the need for a local chapter, its composition and supervision. The way forward will also be discussed.

The UNESCO funded Youth for Human Rights Awareness Project was officially launched on 20th November 2014. This project was designed to raise awareness, generate interest, and educate and stimulate youths on the topic of their human rights. To date seminars have been conducted on both St. Kitts and Nevis to provide training in the delivery of the Human Rights Awareness issues to teachers and students.
