Scholarships ranging in length from 2 weeks to 4 years are available. Minister Richards advised that in the case of the civilian Training Programme Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) for example, some ten opportunities are available in a number of fields now critical to national development. Environment and Renewable Energy Courses; Fisheries Technology and other technical courses; Specialized courses such as National Crime Records, Research and Information Systems and Entrepreneurship; as well as Telecommunications and Accounting and Finance courses are among those that are available by way of scholarship.
Commenting on the tendency of individuals to seek out the traditional avenues and locations for further studies, the minister referred to those persons who had ventured to Cuba and Taiwan, when no one had gone before and who have now returned as qualified, successful professionals in various fields.
The minister said the Ministry would seek to assist individuals in “making the match” as he was sure that there are many seeking opportunities and funding to further their studies but unaware of what is available.
He called on individuals, ministries and even the private sector to contact the Human Resources Department to get further details. (467-1040/467-1036)
